The Kite Framework is a metaphor for gestalt language development, and will:
- Explain exactly how gestalt language processors develop language.
- Compare the process to flying a kite, to make the concepts more memorable and meaningful.
- Paint a clear picture of your role as a great language partner to your child or student.
Becoming a Receptive Partner
Being a tuned-in listener is the first step to becoming a Great Language Partner; but it requires more than just surface level listening with gestalt language processors.
In this module, you’re going to learn:
- The power of quiet observation on connecting with your GLP
- How to listen with purpose so that you can identify the meaning of your GLP's communication
- How to support your gestalt language processor with strategies tailored to meet their needs by learning about immediate and delayed echolalia and all of the functions they serve
Responsive Interactions
The second quality of a Great Language Partner is responsiveness, and in this section you will learn how to become a responsive partner to your GLP.
In this module, you’re going to learn:
- How to recognize and acknowledge all communication attempts
- How to notice what captures your GLP's attention so that you can embody those qualities and create new opportunities
- How to attribute meaning to your child's communication attempts
- How to model language in a way that sticks and generalizes
Reflective Connection
The third and final quality of a Great Language Partner is self-reflection. By reflecting on our own strengths and challenges, we can become the best communication partners to our gestalt language processors.
In this module, you’re going to learn:
- How to identify your own strengths and challenges as related to being a Great Language Partner
- How to use video recordings for self-reflection to improve your language modeling
- How to self-reflect as I model this in real time as we revisit past therapy sessions and I share what I would do differently
